America is Crumbling

The past week, peaceful protests have turned into hatful riots. Sadly, another African American man was killed at the hands of white police officers, this time in Minneapolis. George Floyd was unarmed and pinned to the ground by officers for several minutes while he pleaded for his life shouting, “I can’t breath.” The officers would not let go until his was dead. Marchers and protestors have stood outside for hours on end, in cities all around the United States. It is devastating to see people peacefully standing with signs and demanding social change and equality amongst all races, whereas others are taking this opportunity to cause a commotion.  When the starts to fade away, rioters and looters lash out. Thousands of small and large businesses have been shattered and broken into. Glass is shining on the sidewalks of major cities like New York, Las Angelos, Chicago, Washington, Las Vegas, Atlanta and countless others. Pink Tax

“Pink tax” is a term that refers to gender-based price discrimation for common products, usually related to toiletries Ax The Pink Tax . Women are often up-charged for similar, if not the same products as men. A simple example is a blue razor marketed to the male population that might be $1.99. This selection is shelved opposite the female pink version which is tagged $2.50. The shavers are basically the same, and if anything, the blue choice works better and lasts longer.  It was estimated that 42% of the time, women pay more for the same products as men Price Discrepancy  On average, women are charged $1,351 extra every year (Ax the Pink Tax). It might seem hard to believe, but the Pink Tax has cost me $22,014 in just the sixteen years that I have been alive. Lost Connection

Missing Connection  Kids spend an average of seven hours a day at school, equally 35 hours a week and that is calculated to an astounding 1,330 hours a year in the classroom. Despite a large part of waking hours dedicated to studies, it is difficult to see the relationship that school knowledge has to our daily life and how it really prepares us for the later years. Mission.org published an article explaining how schools fail in preparing young adults for the real world.
